The One Big Question

Do we have Jesus dwelling and reigning in our hearts and lives or don*t we?

1 John 5:10: He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Colossians 1:18: And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 25 Whereof I am made a minister, (servant) according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; 26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: 27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

Matthew 22:46: And no man was able to answer Him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask Him any more questions.

The questions that come from the carnal, unsaved heart fall into predictable categories: the proper relationship of man to government, to his wife, to his God, and to his neighbor. Yet the Lord Jesus summed up life*s meaning when He asked His disciples: *What think ye of Christ?* (Matt. 22:42) In the final analysis, life*s questions and problems are solved quickest and best by relating them to the lordship of Jesus Christ.

Nicodemus came to Christ one day with an inquiring mind and a set of doubts which were summed up by his plaintive question, *How can these things be?* Our Lord Jesus looked at him and said, *Nicodemus, it all depends on who*s telling you. Marvel not when I tell you that you must be born from above. You were born once with an earthly nature. Now, Nicodemus, you need to be born again with a heavenly nature.* Why did our Lord talk of being born again? Simply for this reason: He was the One who had built human nature in the first place, had provided for the reproduction of the species, and for the miracle we call natural birth. No wonder then, that He would have a right to say, *You need a new birth from above.*

Small thought here. The questions of life -- questions about relationships to government, the opposite sex, God, and one*s neighbor -- all tend to fall into place when you settle the one big question: *What think ye of Christ?*
